Bridge at Sunset

I got kind of brave tonight. Mark and I were driving home from a party in Tremont and I noticed that the sun was setting and downtown looked so pretty. So I had Mark get off the highway and drop me off on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge so I could take some pictures. He drove around for a little while and then came back and picked me up. I realized later I should have gotten out at the other end of the bridge--it had better views of the Cleveland skyline. But I did get a few nice ones anyway.

Young Pianist

Doesn't she look like she's concentrating hard on a difficult piece?

Sophie

It was unintentional, but I ended up getting a picture of one cat yesterday and the other cat today.

Shed

I have walked past this little shed several times thinking that I'd like to take a picture of it some day. Even thought it's in the middle of a residential neighborhood in Cleveland Heights, looking at it makes me feel like I'm out in the country. Something about it makes me want to know the people who use it.

Bedroom

Today was pretty gloomy--I wasn't at all inspired to take pictures. So I just snapped a few before getting ready for bed. This week I might have time to get something interesting...

Coats and Shoes

This was a day when I thought several times that I should get my camera out and snap some pictures, but I just kept putting it off until all of the sudden it's 11:30, I'm exhausted, and I remember I haven't even taken my camera out of the bag all day. These days should motivate me to get up and out early to take pictures.

White Dress

I've been wanting to try doing family portraits, so I practiced with my niece today. This dress is one my mother-in-law's grandmother crocheted for her, and since then it has made it into a picture of each girl in my husband's family. Lighting made the portrait making challenging, but this one turned out very nice.

Giraffe

A trip to the Philadelphia Zoo today made for a tough time picking just one picture to post. My brother-in-law felt that this picture was the most in line with the mood of the day (of the finalists I picked) --a little goofy. Click here to see a few more animal photos on flickr.

Butterfly and Flowers

While mom, Sarah and the kids were at the Y this morning I walked across the street to a garden center to take some pictures. They had an area planted with lots of pink flowers and there were dozens of bumble bees and butterflies flitting around. I sat on a rock and took lots of pictures--until my battery died. Aaarrghh. I could have sat there much longer. It was quite nice to sit in the shade and wait for the winged bugs to come close enough for me to snap a photo. I did get some nice ones--but oh all the ones I saw after my batteries were dead!

On another note, I have really come to rely on Microsoft Photo Manager. I don't like messing much with my pictures digitally--other than cropping and clicking "Autofix" I hardly ever do anything. But when I'm visiting friends I have to deal with whatever photo editing software they have, and I miss my familiar Photo Manager. If I were going to print my pictures and try to sell them I suppose I might want to figure out a more sophisticated editing program. But I saw some "digitally enhanced" pictures for sale at the Y today, and I didn't like them at all. It looked like someone had just taken pictures that weren't all that good and did some digital manipulating to make them look artsy. Not for me...

Sky from Car

I take way too many pictures from moving cars, but sometimes that is the only time in the day that I remember to get out my camera. I drove across Pennsylvania today with Mark's mom and when we were almost to our destination (Pennsburg outside Philadelphia to visit Mark's sister), I realized it would be too dark by the time we got there to take any pictures. So I pulled out my camera and got this shot out the front of the car.

Orchids

Mark and I went to the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh today. We went to see a Dale Chihuly exhibit and I took some nice pictures of the glasswork, but I thought it would be cheating to post a picture I took of someone else's artwork. I tried to take some unusual pictures of the glass, and I may have succeeded, but I figured I'd post this picture of the orchids anyway.

Black-Eyed Susans

Friday, August 10, 2007

I'm travelling at the moment, so I wasn't able to post yesterday, but I did take this picture yesterday. Black-eyed susans inspired by Freeman Patterson. I set the shutter speed to one second and moved my camera around in a circle.

Wet Plastic Cover

I couldn't come up with a more interesting name for this--it is just the cover of a fire pit that was sitting out in the rain today. If anyone can come up with a more interesting title, let me know.

Big Sky

I've been finding myself drawn to photographing farms lately. My trip down to Wooster today for a visit with a college friend was the perfect opportunity. I took a side road about a mile to find a spot where I could pull off the road and park and walk around a bit. I really need to become more aggressive. It seems like I am always seeing things from the car that I think would make great pictures, but I'm too...something...to pull over and get out my camera. This is the first time I've done that.

Logan Clay

It was a tough decision today. I took lots of pictures of sunflowers at my mom's house this morning, which were prettier than this one, but Mark pointed out that this picture is more unique to Logan, which is where I was this weekend. And I love the depth to this photo.

Bookshelf

I hate when I leave picture taking to the last minute, because then I end up with bad lighting. I need to try to get my pictures done before the sun goes down...
